M.PHARM

PHARMACEUTICS
(Overview)
The department of Pharmaceutics was established in the year 2010 to strengthen research and training in the area of pharmaceutical technology. The M.Pharm Program in Pharmaceutics was initiated in the same year. The department initiated the research activities in the field of Pharmaceutical technology which includes drug delivery system (Tablets, capsules, liquid oral, microcapsules, nanoparticles ,transdermal system etc.) Plants based biopolymers as expedients for developing different delivery system, herbal pharmaceuticals, and their standardization, dissolution method development for synthetic API and herbals. The department of pharmaceutics will strive to become a centre of excellence in the area of drug development with the objective of developing cost effective newer delivery system for better medication compliance, students are provided with one of the most dynamic programs in the area of pharmaceutical products, discovery and development.

PHARMACEUTICAL CHEMISTRY
(Overview)
M.Pharm (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) was established in the year 2010. Since then, the Department has been actively involved in imparting a relevant knowledge base and technical skills in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry; offering engrossing research activities in the field of medicinal chemistry and fundamental academic research. The Department offers excellent infrastructure with sophisticated equipment and well equipped laboratories; and knowledge in the form of a vast collection of relevant books and journals.Major subjects involves: Advanced Organic Chemistry, Advanced Medicinal Chemistry, Modern Analytical Techniques, Natural Products, Advanced Drug Design, Drug Regulatory Affairs, Pharmaceutical Biostatistics. Laboratory includes: Advanced Organic Chemistry Lab, Medicinal Chemistry Research Lab, Modern Analytical Techniques Lab. Students are motivated and advised to find interest in respective area of research from start of semester. During course of time students are suggested to give presentations on area indentified and work plan. One year is fully dedicated to research work and possible outcome will be publications, thesis or dissertation etc.
PHARMACOGNOSY
(Overview)
The M.Pharm. Course in pharmacognosy was established in 2012 to keep abreast of the rapid developments in the knowledge and utilization of medicinal plants. There is an ever increasing acceptance for herbal drugs all over the world.

The universal role of drugs of biological origin in the treatment of the disease is exemplified by their employment in all the major system of medicine.

Pharmacognosy is a specific discipline deals with the rapid developments in the knowledge and utilization of medical substances of biological origin (Plant, micro-organism and animal products) used in human and veterinary purpose.

The subject provides information about the principles and procedures used in the identification, authentication and extraction, isolation of active constituents by chromatography techniques, purification and development of herbal formulations and assay methods for the isolated constituents. It defines the direction and scope of herbal drug therapy through continuous and innovative research.

PHARMACOLOGY
(Overview)
The Azad Institute of Pharmacy & Research, Lucknow was established in 2005 for undergraduate studies. Later, in 2011, the Institute incorporated postgraduate courses of Pharmacology as well. Pharmacology incorporates collaborative research programmes, involving the studies related to screening of drugs / herbal extracts for different Pharmacological activities. Pharmacology is a major area of drug discovery. It deals with the research, discovery and characterization of chemicals, which show biological effects, and the elucidation of cellular and organismal function in relation to these chemicals. Emerging areas of research include Oncology, fertility, infertility, anti-fertility, diabetes, Obesity and cell line based molecular research, CNS disorders including stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, drug abuse and cardiovascular complications. It also includes animal experimentation, to check efficacy safety and toxicity parameters of synthetic, semi-synthetic and herbal drugs.
A well equipped CPCSEA certified animal house is maintained by the Institute.Laboratory includes: Analytical Techniques Lab, Pharmacological Screening Lab and General Pharmacology Lab. In addition to this special emphasis is for Behavioral Science, Communication Skills. Students are motivated and advised to find interest in respective area of research from start of semester. During course of time students are suggested to give presentations on area indentified and work plan. One year is fully dedicated to research work and possible outcome will be publications, thesis or dissertation etc.
