Pharmaceutical chemistry

Pharmaceutical Chemistry is an integral disciple of drug discovery focusing on small organic molecules—encompasses synthetic organic chemistry and aspects of natural products and computational chemistry in close combination with chemical biology, together aiming at the discovery and development of new therapeutic agents. It involves chemical aspects of identification, and then systematic, through synthetic alteration of new chemical entities to make them suitable for therapeutic use. It includes synthetic and computational aspects of the study of existing drugs and agents in development in relation to their bioactivities (biological activities and properties), i.e., understanding their structure-activity relationships (SAR).

Pharmacognosy

The M.Pharm. Course in pharmacognosy  developes the knowledge and utilization of medicinal plants. There is an ever increasing acceptance for herbal drugs all over the world. The universal role of drugs of biological origin in the treatment of the disease is exemplified by their employment in all the major system of medicine.

Pharmacology

Pharmacology is a major area of drug discovery. It deals with the research, discovery and characterization of chemicals, which show biological effects, and the elucidation of cellular and organismal function in relation to these chemicals. Emerging areas of research include Oncology, fertility, infertility, anti-fertility, diabetes, Obesity and cell line based molecular research, CNS disorders including stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, drug abuse and cardiovascular complications.
